If you’ve picked up a body building or fitness magazine and started to flip through, you’ve most likely been overwhelmed by the number of muscle supplements it seems someone needs to take in order to get in shape. Everything from protein powders to growth hormones, with all of them promising amazing results in very little time. Some of these items are even disguised in some magazines as legitimate weight loss tips. Before you lay down your hard-earned cash on any of this, lets take a look at a few issues.
First of all, this is probably one of the most important things you need to ask yourself, what’s your motivation? If you’re looking for something magical that will help you reach your goals with little to no effort, get ready to be disappointed. Other than plastic surgery, you won’t find anything to help you get into great shape with no effort. Even plastic surgery won’t do that, it will simply help you LOOK like you’re in great shape.
If you’re putting in the physical effort and you’re committed to a long term program of health and fitness, than there may be a couple of supplements you should consider.
Vitamins and Minerals
Unfortunately, todays food is produced by corporations who are more interested in their profit then your overall health. Factory farming focuses on increasing the yield of a crop rather than the quality of it. Because of this, the nutritional content of the food you eat has severely declined over the past few years. If you want to provide your body with all of the nutrients it needs, you’re going to have to include some supplements. I strongly encourage you to look at the natural supplements made from whole foods rather than the synthetic varieties. These are a bit more expensive, but overall are a better value when you measure actual benefit to your body.
Protein
When you’re on a strict weight loss program, one of the most difficult things to do is keep your protein intake up without dramatically increasing your caloric intake. This is a great place for the use of protein powders or bars. Don’t fall into the thought that protein powder is only for people trying to bulk up. In fact, if you don’t give your body all the protein it needs, you’re going to have a much more difficult time losing weight.
There are numerous other beneficial supplements which you may want to explore, but you really only need these two to cover the majority of your bodies needs. Save your money and save it for that new wardrobe you’re going to buy yourself when you finally reach your goals.
